Carin Scholten

Carin Scholten is a Dutch artist who enjoyed her artistic education at The National Academy of Arts & Design in New York and Chelsea School of Art in London, followed by consecutive studies in Florence and London. Currently working from her studio on the outskirts of Amsterdam, her work has recently amongst others been exhibited at PAN Amsterdam, De Hermitage Amsterdam and at number of solo and group exhibitions.

In the energetic, expressive oeuvre of Carin Scholten, imaginative power is used as a tool to blur the edges between fantasy and reality. Her appreciation for raw nature and fascination with the refinement and beauty of the classics have led to an authentic visual language in which she expresses infinitely subtle who she is, what she wants and what inspires her. The complete spectrum of emotions is so credibly depicted that the distinction between reality and fantasy becomes invisible. Elements of fables, parables, myths and legends naturally merge into a cycle of metaphorical sculptures, at times pensive but ever so often exuberant and lighthearted, illustrating the sculptress’ positive attitude and views on life.
